PHRI BPC Surakarta Competition Vol. 2 Successfully Held at Mandala Bhakti Tourism Academy
Surakarta, February 12, 2025 – Mandala Bhakti Tourism Academy hosted the Hospitality Competency Competition organized by the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Surakarta Branch Executive Board. This competition was part of the 56th PHRI Anniversary celebration. The event was participated in by hotels, schools, and vocational tourism and hospitality education institutions that are members of PHRI Surakarta.

The competition officially began at 8:00 AM, starting with participant registration, followed by remarks from the Chairman of PHRI Surakarta, Drs. Joko Sutrisno, M.Pd. In his speech, he stated, “This competition is highly beneficial for participants, as the winners will receive certificates. These certificates can serve as an added value for academic achievements in higher education as well as in seeking future employment.”
There were three types of competitions held as part of PHRI’s 56th Anniversary celebration: the Folding Napkin Competition, the Guest Relation Officer (GRO) Competition, and the Cooking Competition. The Folding Napkin and GRO competitions were participated in by students from educational institutions, while the Cooking Competition was joined by participants from the hotel and restaurant industry (Non Food & Beverage Product Staff). The cooking competition carried the theme “Javanese Fried Noodles”, showcasing cultural and traditional values as a support for tourism. A total of 42 participants took part: 14 in the Folding Napkin Competition, 12 in the GRO Competition, and 16 in the Cooking Competition.
In addition, the event also served as a motivation for the younger generation interested in pursuing careers in the hospitality and restaurant industry to continue learning and innovating. Winners of the Folding Napkin Competition were from Poltek Indonusa Surakarta, SMK N 4 Surakarta, and SMK N 7 Surakarta. Winners of the GRO Competition were from SMK Jayawisata Surakarta and two participants from Mandala Bhakti Tourism Academy. Winners of the Cooking Competition were from Genio Syariah Hotel, Lorin Solo Hotel, and Solia Zigna.
The competition ran smoothly and in an orderly manner, with enthusiastic supporters accompanying the participants and enlivening the event. Beyond competing, participants also exchanged valuable experiences and insights within the hospitality industry.
With the announcement of the winners, the Hospitality Competency Competition in celebration of PHRI’s 56th Anniversary came to a close. The closing ceremony concluded with the awarding of trophies, winner certificates, and door prizes for both participants and their companions. Through this competition, it is expected that participants will be better prepared to face the challenges of an increasingly competitive hospitality industry. Furthermore, this event stands as tangible proof of PHRI Surakarta’s commitment to improving the quality of human resources in Indonesia’s tourism sector.
